RESOLUTION NO. 81-14
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA ANA SUPPORTING THE ISSUANCE
OF A VARIANCE FOR THE CONTINUED OPERATION
OF JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT, WITH THE IMPOSITION
OF CONDITIONS TO REDUCE NOISE IMPACTS
WHEREAS, the State Department of Transportation,
Division of Aeronautics, will be conducting public hearings
on the issue of the application of the County of Orange for
a variance to allow the continued operation of John Wayne
Airport, in violation of the State Airport Noise Standards;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Ana supports the
issuance of a variance to allow the continued operation of
John Wayne Airport, but only under appropriate conditions;
and
WHEREAS, John Wayne Airport is currently operating
by virtue of the terms of a variance issued by the State
Department of Transportation, which variance contains
certain conditions relating to noise control at John Wayne
Airport; and
WHEREAS, the noise placed upon the surrounding
community imposes heavy burdens on the residents of the area
affected by airport noise; and
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Ana acknowledges that
John Wayne Airport provides an important link in the
regional air transportation system of Southern California;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach supports the
continued operation of John Wayne Airport, but only with
limits upon activity and noise impact so as to not more
severely impact residents and property owners surrounding
the airport,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council
of the City of Santa Ana that the City Council supports the
issuance of a variance for the continued operation of John
Wayne Airport. The City Council further supports the
imposition of the existing conditions of the variance which
prohibit an increase in the noise impact of John Wayne
Airport.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Santa Ana that the City supports the imposition of
additional and new conditions on the operation of John Wayne
Airport which will result in significant concrete
limitations on noise and ultimately result in the reduction
of noise imposed upon the residential community surrounding
John Wayne Airport.
