A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AUTHORIZING
THE DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION TO SUBMIT A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE
STATE OF CALIFORNIA, OFFICE OF TRAFFIC SAFETY, FOR FUNDING OF THE
DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A COMPUTERIZED TRAFFIC ACCIDENT
DATA STORAGE AND RETRIEVAL SYSTEM
WHEREAS; the City Council of the City of Santa Ana has repeatedly
emphasized improvements in traffic safety as a City-wide objective of
highest priority; and
WHEREAS; the prompt and accurate identification and analysis of high
incidence locations is of paramount importance in achieving said objective;
and
WHEREAS; the inherent limitations of the existing system of accident
data entry and manual retrieval impose definite constraints on the speed and
accuracy with which such locations can be identified and analyzed; and
WHEREAS; the use of currently available data processing techniques
would alleviate the deficiencies and limitations of the antiquated manual
system; and
WHEREAS; The California Office of Traffic Safety has funds available
for the development and implementation of systems utilizing said data processing
techniques.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA RESOLVES
that the Director of Transportation is authorized and directed to submit a
grant application to the California Office of Traffic Safety for funding a
project for the design, development and implementation of a computerized
accident data retrieval system.
