A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA ANA AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO
SIGN AN AGREEMENT WITH THE CALIFORNIA
DEPARTMENT OF FORESTRY TO ACCEPT A GRANT OF
$25,000 FROM PL 98-8 EMERGENCY JOBS BILL FUNDS
AND TO SOLICIT BIDS FOR CONSTRUCTION
WHEREAS, the Emergency Jobs Bill, Public Law 98-8,
allocated $50,000,000 to the Small Business Administration for
the establishment of a Park Restoration and Urban Reforestation
Program, and
WHEREAS, the objective of this program is to create
jobs for the unemployed and rehabilitate and improve public parks
and other publicly -owned lands, and
WHEREAS, Santa Ana currently experiences high levels of
unemployment and poverty, and
WHEREAS, there are insufficient local funds to provide
for the repair and improvement of many Santa Ana parks, and
WHEREAS, a park restoration grant would result in employ-
ment opportunities for local residents, and
WHEREAS, the State Department of Forestry has approved
a pre -application for $25,000 for the City of Santa Ana to make
repairs and landscaping improvements to Santiago Park, Fisher
Park and Grant Park, and
WHEREAS, agreements must be sent to the State by July
6th, 1983, and work completed by September 30th, 1983:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SANTA ANA:
That the City Manager is authorized to accept a grant
from the California Department of Forestry for $25,000 for a Park
Restoration Project and solicit bids for accomplishment of the
project.
