A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA
DESIGNATING THE AREA BOUNDED BY FIRST STREET ON THE SOUTH,
SEVENTEENTH STREET ON THE NORTH, FRENCH STREET ON THE EAST,
AND BRISTOL STREET ON THE WEST, AS THE "SANTA ANA TRANSIT
THEME DISTRICT".
WHEREAS, in recent years, the Downtown - Civic Center as well as
the adjacent residential areas have been the focal point of extensive
planning, development, improvement and restoration by the collective efforts
of the Community Development, Parks and Recreation, Planning and Development,
and Transportation Services Departments; and
WHEREAS, the area bounded by First Street on the south, Seventeenth
Street on the north, French Street on the east and Bristol Street on the west
constitutes a distinct section of the City possessing special historical,
architectural, and aesthetic characteristics; and
WHEREAS, there is a need to upgrade bus shelter and bus bench faci-
lities in the Downtown - Civic Center and adjacent residential areas in order
to conform with the architectural and historical character of the area; and
WHEREAS, other transportation improvements such as the installation
and placement of directional and/or informational signs, trash receptacles, and
street furniture are accessories which would add the finishing touches to an
area which has been the target of extensive development; and
WHEREAS, establishing a Santa Ana transit theme district would faci-
litate the City's effort to preserve the special character of the Downtown -
Civic Center area relative to transportation improvements;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA ANA designates the area bounded by First Street on the south, Seventeenth
Street on the north, French Street on the east and Bristol Street on the west
as the "Santa Aha Transit Theme District".
