HomeMy WebLinkAbout87-003007 RESOLUTION NO. 87- 3 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA DESIGNATING A CERTAIN BUILDING AS HISTORICAL PROPERTY FOR INCLUSION IN THE CITY OF SANTA ANA REGISTER OF HISTORICAL PROPERTY WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Ana has provided, in Chapter 30 of the Santa Aha Municipal Code for the maintenance of the City of Santa Aha Register of Historical Property, to include such property as the City Council determines to have architectural or historical significance in accordance with the standards set forth in Section 30-2 of the said Code; and WHEREAS, designation of property as Historical Property promotes rehabilitation by allowing the application of the State Historical Building Code and, as to property within a historical rehabilitation are, by giving eligibility for historical rehabilitation financing; and WHEREAS, the property set forth hereinafter has been recommended for designation as Historical Property by the Housing Advisory Commission; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the city Council of the City of Santa Aha, as follows: 1. The following building is found to meet the standards for designation as historical property set forth in Section 30-2 of the Santa Ana Municipal Code and is hereby designated as Historical Property, to be included in the City of Santa Aha Register of Historical Property: BUILDING LOCATION A.J. Wood House 714 N. Spurgeon Street 2. For the abovesaid properties, the report entitled "Historical Property Description", on file in the office of the Clerk of the Council, is hereby approved and adopted as the findings Justifying designation as Historical Property. The two-story house is articulated by two symetrically placed narrow dormers above a gabled portico with a return and inner arch. The narrow vertical windows and shiplap siding indicates that the house was built prior to 1900. The gabled portico is supported by two classical columns. The front door is a multi-paneled wood door that is unpainted. There were no houses of Spurgeon Street between 7th Street (Civic Center Drive) and 8th Street, on the west side according to the f; Sanborn Maps in 1895. Aa of 1901 the owner was Allen Jeffersom Wood and his wife. His great grandfather was Ethan Allen. A.J. Wood was born ~ Franklin County Ark., in 1840. Arrived in Orange County in 1875. He bought Twenty acres, cleared.and placed under irrigation a~d set out in oranges and lemons. In 1881 he came to Santa Ana and began in the harness business.
