A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA ANA AND THE SANTA ANA UNIFIED SCHOOL
DISTRICT BOARD OF EDUCATION ESTABLISHING A
CITY-WIDE CELEBRATION OF SANTA ANA HIGH SCHOOL'S
100TH YEAR
WHEREAS, Santa Ana High School was officially opened in 1889 to
provide public secondary education for the young people of Santa Ana;
and,
WHEREAS, approximately 28,000 students have graduated from this
outstanding educational facility; and,
WHEREAS, a solid high school education is the foundation for
achievement in both higher education and the work place; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council of Santa Ana recognizes that quality
education has been and will continue to be a major element of Santa
Ana and that education is a building block for the future of the
individual, the family unit and the community; and,
WHEREAS, the Santa Ana Unified School District, under the
guidance of the Board of Education, is charged with the responsiblity
of providing educational opportunities for the residents of Santa
Ana; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Ana and the Santa
Ana Unified School District jointly wish to recognize the
contribution of Santa Ana High School to this community for nearly a
century.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA ANA AND THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE SANTA ANA UNIFIED SCHOOL
DISTRICT THAT:
1. The year extending from January 1 to December 31, 1989, shall
be officially designated as "The Santa Ana High School Centennial
Year;"
2. The Santa Ana Unified School District and the City of Santa
Ana support the establishment of a volunteer Centennial Committee to
coordinate this event; and,
3. The community is hereby encouraged to participate in this
laudable City-wide celebration.

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Santa Ana and the
Santa Ana Unified School District will pursue a continuing
commitment to excellence in the quality of education provided to all
children by Santa Ana schools through joint and cooperative planning
and efforts.
Adopted this 13th day of January, 1987 by the Board of Education!
Santa Ana Unified School District.
ADOPTED this 2nd day of February, 1987 by the City Council of
the City of Santa Ana.
