A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA ANA TO SUPPORT THE 1988 SCHOOL BOND
ISSUE.
WHEREAS, Governor Deukmejian has included, within his
budget for the upcoming fiscal year, an amount of 41.6 billion
for school construction programs; and,
WHEREAS, AB 48 (O'Connell) and SB 22 (Bergeson) have been
proposed and are now under consideration by both Houses; and,
WHEREAS, this proposed legislation provides two issues,
each for $800 million; and,
WHEREAS, the two proposed pieces of legislation are
equivalent to that proposed by the Governor, thus indicating a
potential agreement by both the executive and legislative
branch regarding a level of funding for the state school
construction program within California, which can be taken to
the electorate in 1988; and,
WHEREAS, locally, the Santa Ana Unified School District has
nearly 50 projects under various aspects of the State School
Building Program, including twenty for new growth and seventeen
for modernization; and,
WHEREAS, there is continuing need for additional facilities
within the Santa Ana community to accommodate projected growth
over the next ten years.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education
o£ Santa Ana Uni£ied school District supports the passage of
$1.6 billion in General Obligation Bonds for school facilities
during 1988, and £urther requests support £rom local community
organizations such as the Greater Santa Ana Chamber of
Commerce, the PTA Council, and the City o£ Santa Aha in:
l)
Urging the passage of legislation to place these Bonds
on the June and/or November 1988 ballots; and,
2) The passage o£ these Bonds by the electorate o£ the
State of California.
