HomeMy WebLinkAbout89-037,199 RESOLUTION A RESOLUTION OF TdE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA EXPRESSING ITS DESIRE FOR O3MPL~'r~ IN-FORMATION AND MFASUPJ~NT OF IMPACTS RELATED TO THE ODNSOLIDATION OF TRANSPORTATION AGt~qCIES BEFORE ANY PROPOSED LEGISLATION IS CONSIDERED WHEREAS, a Conmtittee on Consolidation was created by the Orange County Transportation Conmtission, which included representatives of the Orangs County Division, to evaluate the potential savings and transporta- tion service improvements for Orange County residents if existing trans- portation agencies were consolidated into a singular Orange County Trans- portation Authority; and, WHEREAS, the Committee on Consolidatic~ is evaluating the poten- tial costs and benefits of such consolidation, but has not completed its task; and, WHEREAS, it would be in the best interests of the residents of Orange County, each of its cities, and the County of Orange to know the costs and benefits of such an action, including impl~nentation costs, to determine its desirability before any pending legislation is considered further by the California Legislature; and, WHEREAS, the cities and the County of Orange are considering the creation of a sub-regic~al association of goverranents within the county and consensus has not bean reached as to the relationship between such an associaticm and existing or new transportation agencies. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA that the cities of Orange County desire to hmve all impacts measured and complete information provided, including implementation costs, related to the consolidation of transportation agencies before any legis- lation is further considered by the California Legislature. RESOLUTION NO. 89-037 200 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution be for- warded to all members of the Orange County Legislative Delegation and, thereby, request that they not support further legislation consideration of any legislation designed to consolidate transportation agencies until complete information has been considered by the cities and County of Orange and a consensus reached on its desirability.
