A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF
SANTA ANA AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 84-99 TO
INCREASE THE NUMBER OF HUMAN RELATIONS
COMMISSIONERS TO NINE COMMISSIONERS
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Ana adopted
Resolution No. 84-99 ("said Resolution") on August 20, 1984
reestablishing a Human Relations Commission of the City of Santa
Ana ("Commission"); and
WHEREAS, said Resolution sets forth the responsibilities of
the Commission in sections 1 through 4 thereof; and
WHEREAS, Section 5a of said Resolution provides for the
Commission to be comprised of seven (7) members to be as nearly
as possible representative of the various and diverse religious,
racial, cultural and age groups within the City of Santa Ana; and
WHEREAS, the City Council now desires to increase the number
of members comprising the Commission from seven (7) to nine (9),
and to have the two additional members be appointed by the senior
centers of the City of Santa Ana (hereinafter referred to as
"Senior Commissioners"); and

Commissioners serve two (2) year terms.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA ANA as follows:
1. Section 5 of Resolution 84-99 is hereby amended to read:
The Commission shall be comprised of nine (9)
members who shall be qualified electors of
the city and state, and as nearly as
possible, be representative of the various
and diverse religious, racial, cultural and
age groups within the city.
The City Council shall make seven (7)
commission appointments generally in
accordance with existing wards from the best
possible applicants available at the time
each vacancy occurs, and with the ethnic
makeup of the community at large, and meet
the affirmative action goals of the City of
Santa Ana.

TWO (2) of the commission members shall have
attained the age of sixty (60) years, be
members of a senior center advisory board in
the City of Santa Ana and be elected by said
advisory board to serve on the Commission.
The latter two members of the Commission
shall be known collectively as the "Senior
Commissioners."
2. Section 9b of Resolution 84-99 is hereby amended to
read:

Except for the Senior Commissioners, the
members of the Commission shall serve for a
term of four (4) years and until their
respective successors are appointed and
qualified, but in no event shall any person
be eligible for reappointment who has served
two (2) consecutive terms of four years each.
The members first appointed to the Commission
shall so classify themselves by lot that the
term of one of each of their numbers shall
expire each succeeding August 1st.

The Senior Commissioners shall serve for a
term of two (2) years and until their
respective successors are appointed and
qualified. The terms of the Senior
Commissioners first appointed shall expire on
August 1st of the second year of their
terms."
