RESOLUTION NO. 91- 104
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA
AUTHORIZING FORMER MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL TO
CONTINUE PARTICIPATION IN HEALTH AND DENTAL PLANS SUBJECT
TO CERTAIN CONDITIONS
WHEREAS, Section 53201 of the Government Code permits the
legislative body of a local agency to provide for the oontinuation
of any health benefits for retired employees and former elective
members of the legislative body subject to certain conditions; and
WHEREAS, elected city council members are members of the
redevelopment agency of the City and, as such, are eligible to
participate in the City's health and dental insurance benefit
plans; and
WHEREAS, employees who retire from service with the city are
currently permitted to continue participation in the health and
dental insurance plans which the City offers so long as the retired
employee pays the full costs of the insurance benefits; and
WHEREAS, the City Council now desires to enable former members
of the city council to continue participation in the health and
dental insurance plans offered by the city after the council member
leaves office;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA ANA AS FOLLOWS:
1. That members of the city council who have completed one or
more terms of office may elect to continue participation in the
health and/or dental insurance plans which the City offers after
they leave office.

2. That any former council member who elects to continue
participation in any health and/or dental plan must agree to pay,
and must pay, the full cost to the City of such health and dental
insurance benefits for said person's participation therein.
