RESOLUTION NO. 95- 066
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA ANA SUPPORTING THE ENTRY
OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA INTO THE GREAT
AMERICAN MAIN STREET AWARDS COMPETITION
WHEREAS, the National Trust for Historic Preservation's
National Main Street Center, along with Edward D. Jones & Co., are
cosponsoring the Great American Main Street Awards, which recognize
the nation's best community efforts at revitalizing traditional
downtowns; and
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Ana's entry into this contest is
justified and substantiated by the following efforts to improve its
downtown; and
WHEREAS the economic health and cultural vibrancy of downtown
Santa Ana is crucial to the overall well being of the City of Santa
Ana; and
WHEREAS the City of Santa Ana wholeheartedly supports downtown
as demonstrated in the creation of a downtown redevelopment project
area, business improvement district, parking assessment district,
facade rebate program, direct loan program and small business
administration program; and
WHEREAS the City of Santa Aha was successful in being chosen
for the site of the U.S. Federal Courthouse for this region; and
WHEREAS the City of Santa Ana has demonstrated the commitment
to maintain all government offices in the Civic Center and downtown
area, thus materially assisting efforts to revitalize downtown
Santa Ana; and
WHEREAS the City of Santa Ana, through the Job Partnership
Training Act, hired 1002 disadvantaged, high-risk youth in summer
jobs for 11 weeks throughout the downtown and Civic Center area in
1995, and provided academic enrichment through required schooling
to these youth; and
WHEREAS the city of Santa Ana has assisted in the
rehabilitation of historic structures, creating an historic
district, and in 1984 was listed on the National Register of
Historic Places; and
WHEREAS, through public/private partnerships, the City has
enhanced the downtown area community with the development of Fiesta
Marketplace, Park Tower, Park Place and the Artists Village; and

WHEREAS, the city of Santa Ana believes that downtown
revitalization efforts represent a positive impact on the city, the
County and the region by revitalizing a traditional downtown
"place" and focal point for the community;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE OITY COUNOIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA ANA that the City Council fully supports the entry of the
City of Santa Ana into the Great American Main Street Awards
competition.
