RESOLUTION BETWEEN THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AND THE
SANTA ANA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR JOINT-USE
FACILITY
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Ana and Santa Ana Unified School District have a
longstanding partnership for the purpose of improving educational opportunities for the
children of Santa Aha and
WHEREAS, the City and Santa Ana Unified School District have joined in
cooperative library services such as homework centers, electronic access to City library
materials and bookmobile service at schools and
WHEREAS, reading skills are an important foundation to other learning and
WHEREAS, research demonstrates a link between improved reading skills and
library use during school vacation and there is a link between library use and higher grade
point averages and
WHEREAS, the students served by Santa Ana Unified School District also use the
city libraries after school and on weekends when school libraries are closed and
WHEREAS, there are economies of operation to be realized by providing joint
school and public library services from one location instead of two
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA ANA:
That City staff explore the feasibility of jointly constructing and operating a 20,000
square foot or larger joint school/public library on a high school campus with the Santa Aha
Unified School District.
