HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-11-1967MINUTES OF THE ADJOURNED REGULAR Mm~'ING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA April 11~ 1967 The meeting was called to order at 7:30 P.M. in the Council Chambers, 217 North Main Street. Following the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, Roll Call was answered by Councilmen James Gilmore, Walter Brooks, Davis Burk, Wade Herrin, J. Ogden Markel, Tom McMichael and Mayor Harry H. Harvey. Also present were City Manager Carl J. Thornton, City Attorney William L. Mock, Director of Public Works Ronald Wolford, Director of Planning Paul Van Stevens, Clerk of the Council Doris M. Brown, and other department heads. CLERK'S REPORT The Clerk of the Council reported that the Order of Adjolzrnment fr~ the April 1967 meeting was posted as required by law with a Certificate of Posting on file. CERTIFICATE OF CANVASS g ~ ~ ~ The Clerk of the Council presented to the City Council a Certificate of Canvass of the returns for the regular municipal election held on April k, 1967, and reported the following candidates received the highest number of votes for the respective offices: Councilman, Ward 2 - Thomas W. Thurman Councilman,. Ward 4 - Lorin Griset Councilmen, Ward 6 - J. Ogden Markel Member of the Board of Education (two offices open) - Charlotte M. Reiter and Wilber F. Hartman The Clerk reported further that Bond Propositions A, B, C, andD in the Special Election consolidated with the General Municipal Election failed to receive the affirmative vote of two-thirds of the electors voting. RESOLUTION 67-46 C 8 ~" RESOLUTION 67-46 STATING AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE CANVASS OF ELECTION RETURNS OF THE GENERALMUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA, ON APRIL 4, 1~67, was read by title. It was moved by Councilman Brooks, seconded by CounciLman Burk~ that further reading be waived and Resolution 67-46 be adopted. On roll call vote: AYES: Councilmen Gilmore, Brooks, Burk, Herrin, Markel, McMichael, Harvey NOES: None ABSENT: None INSTALLATION ~ ~ ~i ~ The Clerk of the Council administered the Oath of Office to the newly elected Council- men, Thomas W. Thurman, Lorin Griset, J. Ogden Markel, and to Charlotte M. Reiter as Member of the Board of Education, and thereafter presented Certificates of Election to each. CITY COUNCIL -161- April 11, 1967 On motion of Councilman Gilmore and seconded by Councilman Burk and carried, the City Council adjourned sine die. NEW COUNCIL C0~¥~ The new Council members being seated, the meeting was called to or,er by the Clerk of the Council with the following members present: Walter Brooks, Davis Burk, Lorin Griset, Wade Herrin, J. Ogden Market, Tom McMichael and Thomas W. Th~n. I~.?~CTION OF MAYOR AND VICE MAYOR Counei~m-n Tom McMi~hael was no~in~ted for Mayor by Councilm~V Brooks, seconde~ by Oouncilm~ Burk. There being n~ further nominations, it was moved by Councilman Griset, seconded by Counci]ma~ ]$~k, that nominations be closed and the Clerk be instructed to cast a u~animous ballot for Councilman McMichael as Mayor. The action was adopted unanimously. Councilman Wade Nerrin was nominated for Vice Mayor by CouncltmRn Burk. There being no further nominations, it was moved by Councilman Oriset, seconded by Councilman Brooks, that nominations be closed and the Clerk be instructed to cast a unanimous ballot for Wade Herrin as Vice Mayor. The motion was adopted unanimously. SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS Resolutions of C~en~ation and Appreciation to retiring Mayor EarryN. Harvey and Vice Mayor J~es Gilmore were unanimously adopted by the City Council on motion of Councilm~n Brooks, seconded by Counctlm-n Burk. Mayor McMichael presented each Resolution and a plaque bearing emblems of their offices to retiring Mayor Harry E. Harvey and Vice Mayor James Gilmore. ADJOUP~ There being no further business to come before the Council, the meeting was adjourned at 8:10 P.M. on motion of Councilman Burk, seconded by Councilm~n Brooks and carried. DORIS M.
