Award a contract to Coast Plumbing, Inc. plumbing modifications at
various Fire Department facilities in the amount of $8,550.
DISCUSSION
The Fire Department is required to launder contaminated firefighter
turnout clothes on a regular basis. Turnouts exposed to structure
fires absorb smoke and carcinogenic chemicals. Currently, the Fire
Department transfers individual turnouts to stations equipped with
laundry facilities or delivers them to outside contractors for
cleaning. The plumbing modifications allow for installation of washers
and dryers at Stations 2, 5, and 6, enabling all stations to perform
cleaning in-house.
Quotes were solicited and Coast Plumbing provided the lowest responsive
bid. The cost of the modifications when combined with previous
purchases during the current fiscal year from Coast Plumbing, Inc.
exceeds the $10,000 aggregate limit and requires City Council approval.
