DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND -SECURITY ..'\. ~ 0 As Recommended 0 As Amended 0 Ordinance on 1st Reading 0 Ordinance on 2nd Reading 0 Implementing Resolution 0 Set Public Heering For CONTINUED TO FILE NUMBER RECOMMENDED ACTION Authorize the Police and Fire Departments to accept personal protective equipment purchased by the Orange County Operational Area under the 2003 U.S. Department of Homeland Security Homeland Defense grants. eSCUSSION .The United States Department of Homeland Defense (DHS) has awarded the State of California, Office of Homeland Security, fiscal year 2003 Homeland Defense funding to disperse to the various Operational Areas for purchasing personal protective equipment for first responders. The Santa Ana Police and Fire Departments are members of the Orange County Operational Area. The Operational Area, through the County of Orange, purchased the equipment and will transfer it to each Orange County Agency. .The goal of the Orange County Operational Area is to outfit all Police and .Fire First Responders with the equipment needed to protect the individuals from weapons of mass destruction. The Police and Fire Departments will be equipped with respirators, chemical suits and dosimeters under the grant. The Operational Area has purchased these items. The grant funding requires Departments to purchase only State-approved equipment in an effort to .standardize equipment throughout the State. .FISCAL IMPACT There is no fiscal (il~ ~l M.Walters Chief of Police .Police Department 21A-1
