RECOMMENDED ACTION
Award a contract to GMF Sound, Inc. to provide all necessary labor,
equipment, and supplies to upgrade the sound system at the Santa Ana
Stadium in the amount of $17,937.30.
. DISCUSSION
The Santa Ana Stadium sound system is used as a public address system
for numerous special and sporting events throughout the year. The
stadium is also used for local Santa Ana high schools and community
college football games as well as for graduation ceremonies.
A quality sound system is essential to ensure the success of the
various events. The original sound system was installed when the
stadium was built in 1963, and was renovated in 1978. An upgrade will
replace the old speakers, horns and woofers; add a new power amplifier
for better control of the speakers; and add two new microphones to the
announcer's box. The upgrade will provide a more clear and natural
sound that will be evenly distributed throughout the stadium and field.
The notice inviting bids was advertised on .February 18-19, 2004 and
bids were solicited. A summary of the bids received is as follows:

Bids were received and opened on March 10, 2004 (Exhibit 1). The bid
. received from GMF Sound, Inc. is responsive to the specification and
. meets the City's requirements.
