RECOMMENDED ACTION
Award a contract to Gallade Chemical, Inc. for a one-year period, with
provision for three one-year renewals, for the purchase of water
8 treatment salt, in an annual amount not to exceed $25,000.
DISCUSSION
The Central Stores section of the Finance and Management Services Agency
provides salt to the Public Works Agency for the treatment of drinking
water. Recent changes to the California Health and Safety Code
regarding the California Safe Drinking Water Act now mandate that any
product added to drinking water must be tested and certified as meeting
the specifications of the American National Standard Institute's
National Sanitation Foundation Standard 60.
The notice inviting bids was advertised on April 5-6, 2004, and bids
were solicited. A summary of the bid invitations and bids received is
as follows:

Bids were received, opened on April 15, 2004, and evaluated. The bid
received from Gallade Chemical, Inc., a Santa Ana vendor, is responsive
to the specifications. The annual amount is based upon past usage and
staff's projection for the next contract period. Bid results are as
