DISCUSSION Beginning in September, Grand Avenue will be widened between McFadden Avenue and Chestnut Avenue to provide three lanes in each direction. Within the limits of this project is a railroad crossing operated by the Southern California Regional Railroad Authority (SCRRA). The project requires the existing railroad crossing protection system to be removed and replaced to accommodate the widening. The new railroad crossing protection system includes automatic gates, bells and signals, and conforms to the current requirements of the California Public Utility Commission. Additional rubber panels within the railroad right of way will be constructed to accommodate the widening section of Grand Avenue. The proposed agreement requires the SCRRA to construct and the City to pay for the railroad work. SCRRA's staff has estimated the cost of the railroad work to be $280,460.
