RECOMMENDED ACTION
Award a contract to Paramount Truck Body & Equipment for the purchase
of a chipper dump body in the amount not to exceed $14,608.75.
. DISCUSSION
The Public Works Agency's Tree Maintenance Section maintains a
comprehensive tree maintenance program of 54,900 trees, which
encompasses trimming, removal and planting of trees. Tree Maintenance
crews are equipped with proper safety equipment, cutting tools and
chipper dump body trucks to haul the chipped tree trimmings. Currently
the Public Works Tree Maintenance Section uses three chipper dump body
trucks for performing tree maintenance service. Fleet Maintenance has
determined that in lieu of replacing one of the chipper dump trucks, it
would be cost-effective to replace the worn chipper dump body only,
without replacing the entire truck.
Bids were solicited, but no responses were received. Subsequently,
staff considers additional mass solicitation of bids ineffective, and
contacted Paramount Truck Body & Equipment to negotiate a price based
on an acceptable proposal. Staff recommends approval of the contract.
