The agreement requires the City to dispose of all of its refuse at the County landfills in exchange for a rate of $22 per ton through June 30, 2007. In addition, the agreement offers the City CERCLA indemnification, the assurance of long-term disposal capacity and the continuation of sound environmental management of the system. The agreement includes an option to renew on or before June 30, 2004. The County is proposing to renew the current agreements for a period of three years, through June 30, 2010 guaranteeing the disposal rate of $22 per ton during this time with an option to renew for an additional ten years at the end of that term. The disposal rate of $22 per ton is very competitive in the State and having a stable disposal rate for three additional years will benefit City residents and businesses. Other provisions of the agreement will remain the same.
