FIRE ALERT SYSTEM REQUEST FOR .OUNCIL ACTION CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: ~ ~ CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: JUNE 7, TITLE: 2004 AGREEMENT WITH COMMUNICATIONS ALTERNATE FIRE HI DESERT FOR AN SYSTEM APPROVED 0 As Recommended 0 As Amended 0 Ordinance on 1" Reading 0 Ordinance on 2"' Reading 0 implementing Resolution 0 Set Public Hearing For afiz:¿ CONTINUED TO FILE NUMBER CITY MANAGER RECOMMENDED ACTION Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and Clerk of the Council to execute an agreement with Hi Desert Communications to provide an alternate fire alert system for the Fire Department in an amount not to exceed $50,000. aISCUSSION The Fire Department utilizes an alternate fire alert system that works in combination with the existing primary alert system and Computer Aided Dispatch to warn Fire Stations of emergencies. The existing alternate system has been in use for approximately 30 years. The support service and equipment required to maintain the alternate alert system are no longer available and have thus rendered this system obsolete. Staff recommends the replacement of this system with the Zetron Model 6/26 Alerting System provided by Hi-Desert Communications. The Zetron model will work in conjunction with the primary system to provide a secondary alert system to ten fire stations. This system fulfills Insurance Services Organization (ISO) Class 1 requirements for Communications. FISCAL IMPACT Funds are available in Fire Facilities Machinery and Equipment account (account no. 120-323-6641).
