DISCUSSION
In order to perform general maintenance, various City departments
require an assortment of materials such as saws, hammers, screwdrivers,
shovels, and rakes. The items are purchased through the Central Stores
warehouse for distribution to the various departments. The contracts
for hand tools and hardware supplies are designed to provide quality
products at significant savings based on quantity pricing. In
addition, the City also establishes contracts for miscellaneous hand
tool and hardware purchases with local suppliers for items that are not
available from Central Stores.
On July I, 2002, the City Council awarded contracts for hand tools and
hardware to Shamrock Supply Co. Inc., Industrial Distribution Group,
and Bishop Company for a two~year period with provision for two one-
year renewals. Although Industrial Distribution Group has requested a
A three percent price increase overall, they continue to maintain the
. lowest prices available. All of the vendors have performed
satisfactorily during the past contract period, and staff recommends
the first renewal of the contract.
