RECOMMENDED ACTION
Award a contract to West Coast Doors & Opening Devices, Inc. for the
purchase and installation of remote gate operators in the amount of
$27,139.
8 DISCUSSION
Fire Station Nos. 2, 4, 6, and 9 utilize manually operated gates to
secure access to the stations' back lots. Presently, the gates must be
manually unlocked, opened, closed and re-Iocked in order for emergency
vehicles to enter and exit. The practice impacts response time and
makes stations more susceptible to access by unauthorized personnel and
theft. The contract will provide for the installation of secure,
remotely operated access gates at each of the four stations. The gates
will be closed and locked automatically, thereby increasing security
while improving emergency response time.
