RECOMMENDED ACTION
1. Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and
Clerk of the Council to execute an agreement with Dr. Lisa Done to
provide veterinary services for the Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice Park for a
one-year period in an amount not to exceed $46,800.
2. Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and
Clerk of the Council to execute an agreement with Dr. Scott Weldy to
provide veterinary services to the Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice Park for a
one-year period in an annual amount not to exceed $20,000.
DISCUSSION
The Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice Park is required by the United States
Department of Agriculture to provide veterinary services for the
collection of animals maintained. Dr. Done will serve as the primary
medical officer and provide a comprehensive program of preventative and
curative medical care for the entire animal collection. Dr. Done will
also serve as the caretaker of all drugs, narcotics, and pharmaceuticals
and administer or supervise the administration of narcotics,
pharmaceuticals, and medical equipment for the animals.
Scott Weldy will provide back up veterinary care when the regular contract
veterinarian is not available. Dr. Weldy's contract provides for onsi te
visits to monitor the health and well-being of the animal collection,
perform treatments, surgeries and preventative health care as needed.
This contract also provides for emergency care the animals at Dr. Weldy's
clinic on the days he is not onsite.
