The DEFY Program, a Department of Justice, Weed & Seed Grant Program, is a five-day summer camp designed to strengthen the protective factors that increase the likelihood that youth will lêad healthy, drug-free lives. As part of the Weed & Seed Grant Program, the Police Department has partnered with the United States Department of Defense (DaD) to facilitate and fund the DEFY Camps. This year's DaD funding for the DEFY Camps has been cut from the Federal Budget requiring the Police Department to obtain new supplemental funding for the project. The total cost for the Police Department to operate the DEFY Camp for this year is $18,104, and of that program cost Santa Ana Weed & Seed grant budget covers $5,834.
