RECOMMENDED ACTION
Award a contract to Ecolab Incorporated, using the County of Ventura's
contract with Ecolab Incorporated for the purchase of laundry chemicals
for a one-year period in an annual amount not to exceed $15,~OO.
DISCUSSION
The City of Santa Ana provides clothing, towel s, and bed 1 inens for
federal and juvenile inmates housed in the Police Department's 480-bed
holding facility. State guidelines require the items be properly
laundered in order to maintain a safe, heal thy environment for the
inmates and detention staff. The jail facility utilizes a five-step
laundry system consisting of a programmable liquid supply that allows
for proper disbursement of laundry chemicals. Ecolab Incorporated
offers a laundering system that meets the jail facility's requirements
and specifications. .
Santa Ana City Ordinance No. NS - 2 312 authori zes the City to purchase
against contracts from any public agency utilizing a competitive bid
process. The County of Ventura awarded a contract for laundry
chemicals to Ecolab Incorporated based upon the resul t of an open,
competitive process, and allows other governmental agencies to purchase
laundry chemicals as specified at the same price. The recommended
purchase from Ecolab Incorporated meets the Police Department Jail
Facility's requirements and, as a result, staff recommends renewing the
contract with Ecolab Incorporated.
