RECOMMENDED ACTION
Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and the
Clerk of the Council to execute an agreement for legal services with
Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP at the rate of $350 per hour.
DISCUSSION
The services of the law firm of Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP are needed
to provide highly specialized assistance to the City Attorney's Office and
Risk Management Divisions. Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP is among a
limited group of law firms with an extensive and highly successful
environmental law practice. After interviews with multiple firms, it was
determined that Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP is the optimal candidate
to associate with the City Attorney's Office in respect to litigation. The
firm has offered a discounted hourly rate in consideration of budgetary
concerns. Additionally, this rate is consistent with standard hourly rates
for law firms with similar experience and expertise.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funds are available in the Risk Management Liability Fund (account no. 80-
180-6191) .
