RECOMMENDED ACTION
Approve an appropriation adjustment accepting The MetLife Foundation and
Libraries for the Future grant award of $5,000 in revenue account (account
no. 153-01-5375) and appropriate the funds to expenditure accounts
(account nos. 153-246-Varies) for the purpose of providing materials and
supplies as needed for the program.
DISCUSSION
The MetLife Foundation has awarded a "Reading ArnericaH grant in the amount
of $5,000 to the Santa Ana Public Library. The Grant was developed to
foster greater understanding and communication among youth and adults.
The Library has established a partnership with Girls, Inc., the Santa Ana
Senior Center, and Professor Donato Martinez to implement the grant.
Activities funded by the grant include an intergenerational six-week
series of poetry workshops for teens and senior citizens at the Main
Library and a special "Teen Poetry Slam NightH, featuring works written by
teens and their senior partners.
FISCAL IMPACT
The appropriation adj ustment will increase revenue account (account no.
153-01-5375) and expenditure accounts (account nos. 153-246-6651, 153-246-
6391 and 153-246-6931) by $5,000. The identified community partners will
provide human resources to assist with the promotion, implementation, and
facili tat ion of the program. The value of the in-kind contribution is
$1,200 from the community partners & $1,500 from the Library.
