RECOMMENDED ACTION
Renew agreement no. A-2002-149 with Lectorum Publications for the
cataloging, processing and purchasing of Spanish language books and
materials for a period of one year in an annual amount not to exceed
$65,000.

On August 5, 2002 the City Council approved an agreement between the City
of Santa Ana and Lectorum Publications, Inc., for an amount not to exceed
$75,000. The Santa Ana Public Library has focused its books and materials
collection development towards serving the youth of Santa Ana and building
its Spanish language collection. To sustain and increase these efforts
the Library must continuously replace and purchase new Spanish language
books and materials. Once these books are purchased, it is necessary to
identify and catalog the books to make them shelf-ready. Lectorum
provides the greatest variety of bilingual and Spanish youth & adult
literature and materials with a high capacity to catalog and process those
materials.
Lectorum is a subsidiary of Scholastic, Inc. and thus provides the lowest
prices in the industry because they purchase in large volumes. In
addition, Lectorum has experienced bilingual staff specializing in meeting
the needs of libraries. The Library is satisfied with the vendor's level
of customer service and timely deliveries.
