Authorize the City Manager to accept the FY 2004 Metropolitan Medical Response System Grant in the amount of $400,000. 2 . Approve an Metropolitan (account no. Metropolitan (account no. Appropriation Adjustment accepting $400,000 into the Medical Response System Grant 2004 revenue account 146-01-5350-100) and appropriating the same into the Medical Response System Grant 2004 expense account 146-325-various) . DISCUSSION For the past few years the Santa Ana Fire Department has participated in the Metropolitan Medical Response System Program (MMRS). This year the City via the Fire Department has been awarded a grant in the amount of $400,000. This grant is through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency. The MMRS Grant allows local government agencies to be prepared to manage the medical, public health, population protection and environmental health impacts of various types of emergency situations. The grant focuses on two major areas "capability" and "sustainment." The Capability focus addresses the City's preparedness for chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive incidents, while improving day-to-day operations including mass casualty, hazardous materials and fire incidents. The Sustainment focus addresses updating the City's sustainment plan, pharmaceutical and equipment cache management, and training exercises. 21A-1 Metropolitan Medical Response System Grant - 2004 November 15, 2004 Page 2 FISCAL IMPACT Acceptance of the MMRS Grant and Approval of the Appropriation Adjustment of $400,000 will increase the anticipated revenues in the Metropolitan Medical Response System Grant - 2004 Account (account no. 146-01-5350- 100) and appropriate the SaIne into the Metropolitan Medical Response System Grant expenditure accounts (account no. 146-325-various).
