DISCUSSION
As part of an on-going effort to meet the demands for City services in the
most cost effective manner, the Fire Chief is requesting the creation of
two part-time classification titles: Fire Communications Operator and
Fire Prevention Assistant. These non-safety classifications will be
assigned duties currently performed by full-time personnel and will assist
the department in responding to increasingly greater work demands without
additional full-time staffing.
Fire Communications Operators will be used on an as-needed basis to
perform emergency dispatching functions in the Fire Communications Center.
Fire Prevention Assistants will conduct State-mandated building
inspections, relieving the full-time Fire Safety Specialists of that
responsibility and allowing them to focus on plan check and public counter
operations.
