RECOMMENDED ACTION
Award a contract to Hi-Desert Communications to provide 15 Ericsson LPE-
200 portable radios in an amount not to exceed $23,045.
DISCUSSION
The Police Department uses portable radios to facilitate communication
at the Santa Ana Jail. Portable radios are used to track the location
of officers and to call for assistance when needed. The jail is
constructed of three-foot thick cement walls. As a result, a special
antenna is required within the building to eliminate radio dead zones.
The antenna is compatible with the Ericsson LPE-200 portable radios that
are currently used at the jail. The new radios will replace existing
radios that were purchased ten years ago and are no longer serviceable.
The notice inviting bids was advertised on November 15 and 17, 2004, and
bids were solicited. A summary of the bid invitations and bids received
is as follows:
