HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-11-1977MINUTES OF THE ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA July 11, 1977 The meeting was called to order in Room 831, City Hall, 20 Civic Center Plaza, at 5:3S P.M., by Mayor Vernon S. Evans. The follow- ing Council members were present: David L. Brandt, Gordon Bricken, John Garthe, David F. Ortiz, James E. Ward, Harry K. Yamamoto and Mayor Evans. Also present were the following mem- bers of Staff: City Manager Bruce C. Spragg and Clerk of the Council Florence I. Malone. The press was represented by Marcie Dodson of "The Register" and Herman Wong of "The Los Angeles Times". INVOCATION PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Following the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, the Invocation was given by Councilman Yamamoto. $800,000 IN UNBUDGETED REVENUES Council instructed Staff OPTIONS FOR TAXPAYER REFUNDS to prepare a list of pro- INSTRUCTED STAFF gram options for using the additional revenues gener- ated by the greater than estimated assessed valuation increase (estimated: 10%; actual: 18%) for consideration at the Council meeting on July 18, 1977, on the unanimously 7:0 approved motion of Councilman Ward, seconded by Councilman Yamamoto. Mayor Evans distributed a press release indicating that it is Council's intent to return the unexpected revenues ($800,000) to the taxpayer in the form of a refund or possibly a reduction in property tax. EXECUTIVE SESSION Council reconvened At 5:45 P.M., Council recessed for an Executive Session to discuss personnel matters. at 7:30 P.M., with all members present.
