SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA
March 2, 1981
The meeting was called to order at 2:09 p.m. by Vice Mayor Bricken in the
City Council Chambers, 22 Civic Center Plaza. Council members present
were Gordon Bricken, Daniel E. Griset, Robert W. Luxembourger, and Alfred
C. Serrato. Assistant City Manager Dan Stone, Assistant City Manager Rex
Swanson, City Attorney Edward J. Cooper, and Clerk of the Council Janice C.
Guy were also present. Council members J. Ogden Markel, Harry K. Yamamoto,
and Mayor James E. Ward were absent.

discussion, the Council agreed
unanimously to consider inputs from the cable TV firms at 6:00 p.m. on

INVOCATION
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

The Presentation of Colors and
Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag
were given by the Girl Scouts of
America. The invocation was given
COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT Dorothy Gee, Community Association
Chairperson, presented an overview
of the background and activities of
the Girl Scouts in Santa Ana, and
introduced several scouts from Santa Ana. The girls presented Girl Scout
calendars to members of the Council.
PROCLAMATION Councilman Serrato presented a
"GIRL SCOUT WEEK" proclamation declaring the week of
March 8-15, 1981, as Girl Scout Week
to Dorothy Gee, Chairperson, Community
Association of Girl Scouts in Santa Ana. Ms. Gee expressed her appreciation
to Council and stated that they would not be able to accomplish so many
things without the City's support. CA 46

SPECIAL PRESENTATION County Black Historical Commission,
FROM O.C. BLACK HISTORICAL COMM. presented an engraved plaque to the
Vice Mayor in appreciation of the
City's support of the recent Black History Week celebration. She extended
thanks to Councilmen Bricken, Griset, Yamamoto, and Serrato, as well as
to the City Manager and the Recreation & Parks Director, for their parti-
cipation in the Black History Week parade held on February 7, 1981.

ORAL COMMUNICATION William Fisher, 940 W. 18th
WM. FISHER Street, addressed Council,
expressing concern about a
house which was moved into his
neighborhood by the Santa Aha Historic Trust. He stated that the structure
was not equal in value and size to the other homes in the area, and asked
if it were possible to have the house removed; or if that were not possible,
to have some means to prevent similar moves in the future.
The following people spoke in agreement with Mr. Fisher:

Mike Wideman, 1211N. Louise, addressed Council representing the Santa Aha
Historic Trust, stating that the house in question was thought to have an
historic significance; and that the lot to which the house had been moved
was within the means of the Santa Ana Historic Trust. He felt that with
restoration and rehabilitation, in time the house would be acceptable to
the neighborhood.
Following lengt~ discussion, MOTION was made by Griset, seconded by
Luxembourger, to instruct staff to review the relationship with the
Santa Ana Historic Trust, and to provide Council with recommendations
within 30 days to help eliminate similar problems from occurring in the
future.
