Luxembourger, in Room 147, Council Chambers, 22 Civic Center Plaza. Councilmembers present were John Acosta, Gordon Bricken, Daniel E. Griset, P. Lee Johnson, Patricia A. McGuigan, Dan Young, and Mayor Luxembourger. Also present were City Manager A. J. Wilson, City Attorney Edward J. Cooper, and Clerk of the Council Janice C. Guy, as well as members of the City's Executive Management staff and the press. WORK STUDY SESSION - OVERVIEW OF HOUSING The Director of Housing provided a videocassette presentation on Santa Ana's housing programs, delineating the opportunities for funding for improvements or construction of single family residences, ~ulti-family residences, and describing special programs. Councilmember Young emphasized the need for staff to pursue new housing opportunities. Councilmember Bricken requested that the City Manager provide the Council with a briefing on all relevant City programs before leaving for his new position in Kansas City, Missouri. The City Manager indicated he would be providing a 12M-day forecast of programs prior to his departure. Councilmembers then discussed details relative to Consent Calendar items. Councilmember McGuigan indicated concern regarding the increasing availability of liquor, particularly in mini-markets located in gas stations, and suggested Council scrutinize more closely applications for such uses located in close proximity to schools and libraries. C(YJlqCIL AGE~DA ITemS Councilmember Johnson co~nented that Councilmember Acosta had been elected President of the Masonry Contractors, California Chapter, for 1984-85. In response to Councilmember Johnson'$inquiry regarding the public address system at the Bowers Museum, the CityManager responded i~provements were scheduled to be made as part of the rehabilitation of the courtyard area. Councilmember McGuigan referred to a classified ad in T~e Re~ister newspaper which inferred that the City was calling for a pre-demolition sale for the Spurgeon Building. The City Manager stated he would prepare an appropriate response to the owners of the building. Councilmembers Bricken and McGuigan reminded Council of the first Mayor's Olympic Bowl between Santa Ana High School and Mater Dei High School to be held on September 23, 1983 at the Santa Ana-Eddie~st Stadium.
