OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA
January 27, 1986
The meeting was called to order at 7:51 p.m. by Mayor Daniel E.
Griset, in the council Chambers, 22 Civic Center Plaza.
Councilmembers present were John Acosta, wilson B. Hart, P. Lee
Johnson, R. W. Luxembourger, Patricia A. McGuigan, Dan Young and
Mayor Griset. Also present were City Manager Robert C. Bobb, City
Attorney Edward J. Cooper and Clerk of the Council Janice C. Guy.

Councilmember Luxembourger suggested that each Councilmember submit
one additional name to form a pool of alternates from which
replacements might be selected, should any of the appointees be
unable to serve. The Mayor indicated that action on Councilmember
Luxembourger's request would be taken at the February 3 Council
meeting.
COUNCIL POLICY ON MATTERS RELATING TO WESTDOME
MOTION: 1) Remove from consideration the downtown site for
construction of the Westdome Sports Arena;
2)
Create a citizens' participation committee to
help find an alternative location for the
Westdome in Santa Ana;
3)
Direct staff to prepare, once such committee is
appointed, the necessary data regarding other
potential sites for presentation to the
committee, and to prepare a review
of the bond issue recently sold for its potential
use on an alternative site; and
4)
Direct staff to meet with the Westdome Partners
relative to transfer of the financing and the
partners' acquired expertise to an alternative
location.

considered separately.

ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
Jan Boer and Miles Leach expressed their appreciation to the Council
for its action relative to the Westdome.
Thelma Paige, 217 N. Bewley, addressed Council requesting assistance
with closure of an alley in her neighborhood; the matter was referred
to staff by the unanimous informal consent of the Council.
Mitch Davis, 3050 S. Bristol, addressed Council expressing
disappointment that Council endorsed the concept of the Westdome but
failed to take a definitive stance with regard to its location.
Florence Leach, 2025 W. 10th, addressed council inquiring as to
future plans for Eddie West Field.

James McGuigan, 5642 West Keelson, addressed Council expressing
concern relative to the waste of taxpayer's money for an
Environmental Impact Report for the Westdome Project at the Eddie
West Field location.
