OF THE CXTY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA ANA, CALZFORNIA
,JULY ~1, 1987
The meeting was called to order at 5:41 p.m., by Mayor Dan Young, in Room
147, Council Chambers, 22 Civic Center Plaza, Santa Ama. Councilmembers
present were Wilson B. Hart, Ron May, Patricia A. McGuigan, and Mayor
Young. Also present were City Manager David N. Ream, City Attorney Edward
J. Cooper, and Clerk of the Council Janice C. Guy.
Councilmember John Acosta joined the meeting at 5:50 p.m.
Councilmember Daniel E. Griset was excused due to absence while on City
business, and Councilmember Miguel A. Pulido due to attendance at Harvard
University.
COUNCIL STUDY SESSION
Proposed Santa Ana Museum District
Norman Pfeiffer, Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer, presented a conceptual plan of a
proposed Museum District for the area bounded by Broadway, Seventeenth
Street, and the Santa Aha Freeway, which would contain cultural
facilities, offices, hotels, parking, restaurants, shops, plazas,
theaters, streetscape improvements, as well as retail and residential
uses. He indicated implementation of the District would be phased with
the area along Main Street, approximately 70% of the District, scheduled
for Phase I, and the area along the freew~ for Phase II.
Dick Botti, Keyser Marston Associates, briefly reviewed the underlying
assumptions, objectives, and strategies relative to establishing the
District, and responded to Councilmembers' specific questions.
At 6:40 p.m., the Council recessed, and reconvened in the Council Chambers
at 6:47 p.m., with the same Councilmembers present.

MOTION: Amend the title of the Museum District, deleting Orange County
and inserting Santa Ana, and approve.
19.A.1. Conceptual plan for the proposed Santa Aha Museum District.

MOTION: Amend title of District; authorize staff to solicit requests for
proposal.

Community Development Agency.

The Mayor expressed the Council's appreciation to the Bowers Museum
Corporation's Board of Directors for its key role in recommending
formation of the District, and particularly to Hector R. Godinez, outgoing
Chairman of the Board, for his leadership role.
At 6:53 p.m., the Council recessed to the Community Redevelopment Agency
and reconvened at 7:20 p.m., with the same Councilmembers present.
ADJOURNMENT
At 7:20 p.m., the meeting was adjourned.
