MINUTES
The meeting was convened at 5:55 p.m. in the City Hall, Room 831.
The following Council Members were present: Alberta Christy
Mike Garcia
Staffs present were: Jon "Rip" Ribble, Exec. Dir., PRCSA

1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
ACTION ITEM: Minutes of February 6, 2003 meeting were approved as
submitted.

KIDSDAY
The Boys and Girls Club of America, in collaboration with KidsPeace, and other
youth serving organizations, is spearheading a national KidsDay. This day is to
celebrate and honor America's children and will be observed on the first Sunday
in August.
The National Honorary Chair is First Lady Laura Bush. The City of Santa Ana, in
collaboration with the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Ana, will be participating in
the National KidsDay on Sunday, August 3, 2003, 11 :30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the
Santa Ana Stadium. The theme of the event will be "An Old Fashioned Family
Picnic." The Fluor Corporation will be donating 500 backpacks with school
supplies that will be distributed to needy kids.
The event will include a kids talent show, a salsa making competition with
awards, and various activities including: sack races, egg toss, crafts activities,
family photo, etc.
The National sponsors of KidsDay are Blockbuster, Home Depot, Party City,
Wal-Mart, Kodak, Kraft, MLB, Hallmark, Smuckers, and Tupperware.

The Boys and Girls Club will also solicit local sponsorship from various
businesses. The estimated attendance will be approximately 2500, including
kids and parents.

FEE STRUCTURE
Staff presented the current miscellaneous fee structure for Parks, Recreation and
Community Services Agency.
The Committee discussed proposed fee increases to address the cost of living
increase, staff costs, and the service cost for reservations, programs and
classes.

7. NEXT MEETING: April 3,2003 - 5:45 p.m. (Canceled)
ACTION ITEM: Committee Members discussed and approved that the monthly
Education and Youth Programs Committee meeting be changed to quarterly
meetings. Next meeting will be conducted on June 5, 2003.
