PUBLIC COMMENTS
The following persons expressed opposition to the construction of a pedestrian bridge for
Hoover Elementary School students by Caltrans over the 1-5 freeway at 20th Street and
requested the City Council assist in preventing the construction of the bridge.

Leo Teotle (submitted petition with 429 signatures in opposition to the bridge)
Stanley Long
Mayor Young explained the Santa Ana Unified School District would hold a public meeting
on this issue on July 12, 1994 following which a determination would be made by the Board
on the issue which was within the District's sole jurisdiction.
Mayor Young acknowledged a written communication from Margaret Farris and indicated he
would discuss her comments with the Police Chief.
San Juarez expressed support for the recently enacted garage sale and sign ordinances,
reported on his activities in removing signs from the public right-of-way, and requested the
City more strenuously enforce the sign ordinance.
Mayor Young encouraged City Public Works crews to be more aggressive in the removal of
illegal signs in the public right-of-way.

CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS
Councilmember Moreno requested an update regarding the traffic study he had requested for
the Wright and First Street area. Assistant City Manager Debra Kurita indicated the study
was in process.
Mayor Pro Tern Pulido reported on his activities as a judge at a recent parade in French Park
indicating the task had been a difficult one.
Councilmember McGuigan requested staff provide the Council with a status report on
improvements made by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to the Santa Ana riverbed.
Councilmember Lutz welcomed Rob Richardson back to the Council dais and expressed his
condolences and those of the Council to Mayor Young on the recent death of the Mayor's
father.

COMMENTS/CLOSED SESSION
Councilmember Richardson:
- thanked all who had supported him during his recent illness;
- commended the Santa Ana Police Department on its handling of jubilant
Santa Aha World Cup soccer fans; and
- reported the National Institute of Science and Technology would be
conducting test burns on several structures on Bristol Street which would
provide data regarding fire hazards in overcrowded buildings.
Mayor Young:
- requested Public Works Agency Executive Director Jim Ross and
Planning and Building Executive Director Robyn Uptegraff assist Adohr
Farms in resolving the issues constraining expansion of the Adohr plant in
Santa Aha;
- reported that he and Councilmember Mills would be meeting to assist
Riverview Golf Course in developing its plan for restoration of the
course following completion of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers work in
the Santa Ana riverbed; and
expressed his appreciation for the support of all those in City Hall during
the recent loss of his father.
