DISCUSSION On August 16, 2004, the City Council accepted $15 million Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) grant from the federa Department of Homeland Securi ty, through the State of California, Offi e of Homeland Security. This initiative was designed to enhance the domes ic preparedness of urban areas by ensuring that all emergency first responders have adequate equipment, training, and systems to prevent, resp nd to, and recover from acts of terrorism. The grant provides total reimbursement to local agencies for equipment purchases and training ap roved and authorized by the federal Office of Domestic Preparedness. In a collaborative effort, the cities of San a Ana and Anaheim are leveraging UASI grant funds to bring a public educ tion campaign concerning terrorism and emergency preparedness. After a Request for Proposal (RFP) was completed by the City of Anaheim, the mark ting firm of Allison & Partners was selected and retained. The City of Anaheim UASI has implemented preliminary phases of the "ReadyOC" ca paign countywide. Under the terms of this agreement, additional pha es of the campaign will include a "ReadyOC" Community Liaison, strategic pans for community events and media relations, and "Response Training" m rketing.
