RECOMMENDED ACTION
Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager
Clerk of the Council to renew the agreement with the Orange
Department of Education to provide General E ucation Diploma
services in an annual amount not to exceed $30,000.

DISCUSSION
The Santa Ana Jail provides various educational classes for the inmates.
One of the programs offered by the Jail is the 0 portunity for inmates to
obtain a General Educational Diploma (GED). Th Alternative, Community,
and Correctional Education Schools and Services Division of the Orange
County Department of Education has been providing GED testing services to
the Santa Ana Jail inmates for the past several y ars and staff recommends
renewal of this agreement.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funds are available in the Police Department, I mate Welfare Fund Other
Contractual Services account (account no. 023-349- 291).
