DISCUSSION
In order to perform general maintenance, various City departments require
an assortment of interior and exterior paints and supplies such as brushes,
rollers, and masking tape. In addition, the Public Works Agency requires
industrial and traffic paints for graffiti abatement, fire hydrants, curbs,
crosswalks, and lane markings. The materials are purchased through the
Central Stores warehouse for distribution as needed. The contracts for the
supplies are designed to provide quality products at significant savings
based on quantity pricing. To help ensure that necessary items are
available when required, staff recommends awarding contracts to multiple
vendors. Staff will continue to select the vendor offering the item needed
at the lowest cost.
