RECOMMENDED ACTION
Award a contract to Horizon Mechanical for the purchase of a swimming pool
heater in the amount of $20,766.
DISCUSSION
The City operates 5 swimming pools throughout the City and offers various
programs to children and adults. A senior aquatics program, consisting of
therapeutic exercise classes, is held at the Salgado pool. The pool heater
is no longer functioning properly, and as a result, is in need of
replacement. The senior aquatics program will temporarily be relocated to
the Memorial Park pool. Once the pool heater is replaced, the senior
aquatics program will resume at the Salgado Park pool.
The notice inviting bids was advertised on September 25 and 27, 2006, and
bids were solicited. A summary of the bid invitations and bids received is
as follows:

3 Bids received
1 Bid received from a Santa Ana vendor
Bids were received, opened on October 11, 2006, and evaluated (Exhibit 1).
The bid received from Horizon Mechanical is responsive to the specification
and meets the City's requirements.
