DEDICATION OF REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION CENTER COURTYARD
Mayor Pulido commended former Mayor Tem Rob Richardson for his outstanding service on the
Council. Richardson thanked the Council in advance for the honor to be bestowed on him,
acknowledging the action was particularly appropriate in view of his enthusiasm for railroading.

Naming of the fountain courtyard and passenger platform area at the Regional
Transportation Center as the Robert L. Richardson Courtyard and Passenger

inquiry regarding the contractor's liability for the sinkhole in the recently repaved street. Ross
indicated the cause of the damage was still under investigation, but should the fault lie with the
contractor, the City would take appropriate action.

PUBLIC COMMENTS
Carrie Schumacher, owner of a residence in the condominium complex at 408 E. Civic Center
Drive, explained she had been unsuccessful over an extended period to get the Fire Department
to re-inspect the building's alarm system and requested the Council's assistance. The City
Manager indicated he would investigate and report to the Council.

COUNCIL COMMENTS
Councilmember Moreno:
· requested Public Works staff to repair potholes in the vicinity of St. Gertrude and Center
Streets;
· expressed frustration with the continuing sale of used household items from tracks parked on
streets and asked ifa legislative remedy were possible (The City Attorney and Plarming and
Building Agency Executive Director explained vending from vehicles was governed by the
California Vehicle Code and difficult to enforce. The Attorney indicated he would
investigate the matter.);
· requested debris be removed from the greenbelt along Raitt Street between McFadden and
Edinger; and

COUNCIL COMMENTS
directed the Clerk of the Council to place the removal of Ward 1 Board and Commission
members on the next Council agenda and expressed his intention to ask the City Council to
consider this request on a continual basis.
Councilmember Bist:
· reported she had enjoyed a preview tour of the Discovery Science Center recently and
suggested that residents visit the Center during the "open houses" scheduled between
December 19 - January 31; and
· thanked the organizers of the 3rs aimual Wilshire Square Neighborhood Association concert
for a wonderful event.
Mayor Pro Tem Lutz:
· reported he recently toured the Ronald Reagan Federal Courthouse, was greatly impressed by

· noted the William Eldridge Park was dedicated last weekend with a special program
honoring this local World War II war hero;
· commended the contributors to Santa Anita Park "Tot Lot" opened last weekend; and

Councilmember McGuigan:
· recognized Florence Leach in the audience and sent regards to her husband Miles Leach, one
of Santa Ana's remaining "Pearl Harbor" survivors;
· reported her attendance at the National League of Cities Annual Conference last week and
intent to share ideas and program information with her Council colleagues; and
· wished everyone a safe and happy Holiday Season.
Councilmember Christy:
· thanked everyone for their support of her successful election campaign, expressed pleasure
with being a member of the City Council, and stated she always has an "open door";
· offered kudos to Recreation and Community Services staff members, particularly Ron Ono
and Rip Ribble, for their efforts in the creation and dedication of the William Eldridge Park;
· encouraged attendance at performances of the Aman International Dance group that had
recently relocated from Los Angeles to Santa Ana; and

Counci lmember Franklin:
· thanked the Recreation and Community Services Agency staff for its prompt attention to the
concerns expressed by the sports directors of the City's high schools regarding the
deteriorated condition of Eddie West Field;
· asked staff to assist in distributing tour information regarding the Ronald Reagan Federal
Courthouse and the Discovery Science Center (The City Manager indicated schedules would
be posted on Cable Channel 3.);
· recognized the anniversary of Pearl Harbor Day;
· congratulated the Floral Park Neighborhood on its excellent newsletter and reported the last
issue had featured an article regarding the numerous bird species in the Neighborhood;
· welcomed Councilmembers Bist and Christy to the City Council; and
· reported the death of Dave Bunch, a long time County resident, educator, and member of the
Santa Ana Kiwanis Club.
Mayor Pulido indicated the Council meeting would be adjoumed in honor of Dave Bunch, and
wished everyone a Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
