Councilmember Bist
• Reminded citizens that "Fiestas Patrias", sponsored by the Downtown
Santa Ana Business Association, will be held on September 15-17,
2000.

• Announced that "Sights and Sounds of Santa Ana" will be held on
September 22-24, 2000 with a jazz cabaret and art preview at the
I Masonic Temple on Sycamore Street, a Plein Air art exhibition at the
Bowers Museum, and the Jazz and Blues Festival at the Santa Ana
Zoo on Sunday, September 24tn
Councilmember Lutz
• Announced that the Santa Ana High School "all years" reunion will be
Held at Irvine Regional Park on September 9, 2000 from 11:00 a.m. to
4:00 p.m.
• Reminded constituents that the Treasures of the Forbidden City exhibit
at the Bowers Museum was leaving, but will return to Santa Ana in
2001 following exhibits at four other cities in the United States.
Councilmember McGuigan
• Announced that on Saturday, September 9, 2000, a fundraiser will be
held beginning at 8:00 a.m. in Thornton Park for a part time City
Employee — Lupe Martinez who required surgery due to a brain tumor.
Councilmember Christy
• Mentioned that at the final event at the Bowers Museum, guests
heard twelve tunes from the music box given to the Emperor.
• Announced that ComLink was hosting a candidates forum, moderated
by the League of Women Voters, in the City Council Chambers on
September 21, 2000 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
• Briefed the Council and citizens relative to three recent trips to
Mexicali and Calexico, Mexico to support efforts to improve the quality
of life of homeless children, to recognize graduating instructors for
contributions to D.A.R.E., and to attend a fund raising dinner for the
construction of a homeless shelter.
Councilmember Franklin
• Requested that the Historic Resources Commission review the
possibility of placing plaques on historic buildings in the City.
• Requested that staff work with Comcast to add Fox News West
Channel to Santa Ana cable service.
• Noted that development has begun on improvements in the new
Cornerstone Village and recommended that citizens take the
opportunity to view the changes that are being made in the Minnie
Street area.
• Suggested that the Empowerment Zone status report presented at the
Work Study session on August 21, 2000, be given again during a
televised meeting of the City Council so that residents can be informed
of the accomplishments achieved by the Empowerment Zone Board.
• Reported that the Floral Park Summer Concert was a successful
summer event.
