City of Santa Ana authorizing the Chief of Police to execute a grant
award agreement with the Office of Criminal Justice Planning

90.A. PUBLIC COMMENTS
Soledad Alejandre expressed concern about budget priorities and the
need for the sewer service charge
Ruby Woo from the Artesia Pilar Neighborhood thanked the Council for
approving grant funds for a park in the neighborhood, but stated that
additional funding was needed for a center at the park
Mayor Pulido left the meeting at 8:27 p.m.

Councilmember Christy
• Congratulated the Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce on its informative
Community guide which will soon be available
• Congratulated The Olson Company for being named "American Builder
of the Year"

Councilmember Bist
• Congratulated the Friends of the Zoo on the successful "Zoofari"
fundraising event held on August 25, 2001 at Prentice Park
• Attended the 1st Saturday of the month event in the Artists' Village on
September 1, 2001
Councilmember Solorio
• Thanked the members of the community who came to the meeting to
address the Council relative to the sewer service charge, and thanked
City staff for their outreach efforts in notifying the business and
residential communities of the need for this fee
• Noted that the City is making an investment in the Artesia Pilar
neighborhood, including pending playground improvements at El
Salvador Park
• Noted that today, September 4, 2001 was the traditional first day of the
school year
Councilmember Franklin
• Announced that Santiago Creek Week is from September 10,2001
through September 15, 2001; two key events during this week include
the kick off on Monday, September 10, 2001 at 10:00 a.m., and creek
clean-up day on Saturday September 15, 2001 beginning at 9:00 a.m.
• Asked the Council Subcommittee on school issues to find out what the
School District is currently doing on educating school age children on
litter and pollution
• Thanked the Pacific Symphony Orchestra and sponsors for the very
successful concert held at Centennial Park on August 18, 2001
Mayor Pro Tern McGuigan
• Asked drivers to be very careful and watch for children in the streets
now that the new school year has opened
• Noted that the current edition of Orange Coast Magazine has three
very complimentary articles on Santa Ana
• Asked the Council to adjourn in the memory of Patricia Estabrook,
mother of Councilmember Christy's son-in-law
