RECOMMENDED ACTION
Award a contract to OC Sunny for replacement of stadium press box windows
in the amount of $27,844.
DISCUSSION
The press box of the Santa Ana Stadium was part of the original
construction of the stadium in 1965. With the installation of the new
synthetic turf field, the use of the Santa Ana Stadium has increased
significantly and is being reserved almost daily. The stadium is the home
field to four Santa Ana Unified School District high schools, Mater Dei
High School, and the Santa Ana Community College football teams. It is
also heavily used by local youth and adult soccer teams, Pop Warner
football leagues, and is the host site for many annual special events,
including the Orange County Junior All-American Cheerleading Competition
and the annual Mother's Day Celebration.
Coaches, scorekeepers, statisticians and school reporters use the press
box. Several frames and panes in the press box require replacement due to
normal use and exposure to the elements. The project includes the removal
of the existing windows and the installation of new windows. The new
tinted, energy efficient windows will allow for better heat and glare
control, as well as increase ventilation and enhance the appearance of the
Santa Ana Stadium.
The notice inviting bids was advertised on October 22, 2007 and bids were
