Accordingly, Santa Ana Unified School District has placed Measure G on the June 3, 2008 California Statewide Election ballot; authorizing $200 million for school improvements in the District. Approval of this measure would further allow the District to be eligible to receive an additional $120 million in state-matching funds to replace, modernize, and upgrade classroom facilities throughout the District. The District has an immediate need to replace temporary buildings with permanent buildings, provide technology and other educational infrastructure, and upgrade facilities at every District school. Under California State law, bond money can only be used to acquire, construct, or improve school facilities. The payment of teacherJadministrator salaries and operating expenses unrelated to bond measure projects is strictly prohibited. In addition, a Bond Oversight Committee would be created to maintain the strict accountability required by the District Board. Passage of Measure G is vital to the future success of Santa Ana public schools and the education of our youth. Public schools are a tremendous asset to Santa Ana since they serve to educate our youth, provide meeting and recreational facilities to our residents, and are intrinsically related to the image of our community. FISCAL IMPACT There is no fiscal impact associated with this item. 55D-1 RESOLUTION NO. 2008-XXX A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA ENDORSING THE SANTA ANA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT MEASURE G Section 1.
