NO. 08-060) CITY MANAGER RECOMMENDED ACTION CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: APPROVED ^ As Recommended ^ As Amended ^ Ordinance on 1S' Reading ^ Ordinance on 2"d Reading ^ Implementing Resolution ^ Set Public Hearing For CONTINUED TO FILE NUMBER Renew the contract with Orange County Striping Service, Inc., for roadway striping and markings and traffic sign maintenance for a one-year period in an annual amount not to exceed $490,275. DISCUSSION The Public Works Agency's Roadway Marking and Signs Section manages approximately 400 miles of streets within the city of Santa Ana. Contracts are required for the installation and removal of traffic stripes, pavement markings, curb markings and raised pavement markers, as well as the installation, removal or relocation of traffic signs. To minimize impact on traffic flow, roadway striping and sign maintenance is conducted at night. On November 17, 2008 the City Council awarded a contract to Orange County Striping Service, Inc., for a one-year period, with provision for three one-year renewals. In the last year, crews have restriped 2,550,000 linear feet of roadway, repainted 264,000 linear feet of crosswalks and 19,000 legends/markings, and installed or replaced 1,000 signs and signposts. The vendor has performed satisfactorily during the past contract period and has agreed to renew the contract without an increase in pricing. Staff recommends the first renewal of the contract.
