Renew the contract with L.N. Curtis & Sons for the purchase of fire hose
for a one-year period in the annual amount not to exceed $28,700; and
increase the aggregate limit for miscellaneous supplies for the Fire
Department in an amount not to exceed $25,000 annually.
DISCUSSION
The Fire Department has established an ongoing replacement program for fire
hose at a rate of one engine load per year, eliminating the need for mass
purchases. The replaced fire hose is used on reserve fire apparatus or
stored for unexpected emergencies.
On April 7, 2008, the City Council awarded a contract to L.N. Curtis & Sons
for a one-year period with provision for three one-year renewals. The
vendor has performed satisfactorily during the past contract period. Staff
recommends the first renewal of the contract.
Additionally, L.N. Curtis & Sons provides miscellaneous equipment,
supplies, and turnout garments for the Fire Department. The purchase of the
fire hose, when combined with previous purchases by the Fire Department
during the current fiscal year, will exceed the $25,000 aggregate limit. In
order to facilitate future purchases, staff recommends an increase to the
aggregate limit.
